Negotiating on Your
Behalf
If you are not ready to attend a meeting with your
spouse, but you have urgent issues that need to be dealt with, you can hire me to
negotiate with your spouses lawyer directly. While you give up the considerable
benefits of a dynamic process (such as speaking on your own behalf to influence your
spouse and respond to questions that arise), you can still put some interim financial or
child sharing arrangements into place. After some early progress is made, you may feel up
to attending a four-way meeting with your spouse and the two lawyers, to finalize things.
If not, the case can be negotiated to conclusion by the lawyers. If a settlement cannot be
reached, the matter may go on to arbitration or Court.
I am frequently asked to take over a court case that has
already been started, so that I can negotiate a settlement with the other spouses
lawyer, and avoid the expense and stress of a trial. I will also attend a Case Conference
and a Settlement Conference on your case, if one has been scheduled. My skills in
mediation and collaborative practice assist me to negotiate with your spouses lawyer
in a way that de-escalates the conflict and refocuses the task toward settlement.
To book a consultation with me, please call my assistant
Carole Greatrix at 416-762-8617 ext. 2.
